Hungry for the Word
Are you looking to spend more time in your Bible this New Year? Are you discouraged because you have small children and no time?
Here’s a quote for you and a post that I wrote back in September.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones once spoke with a group of medical students who complained that in the midst of their training and the ferocious work hours they really didn’t even have time to read the Bible and have their devotions and so on. He bristled and said, “I am a doctor. I have been where you are. You have time for what you want to do.” After a long pause he said, “I make only one exception: the mother of preschool-aged children does not have time and emotional resources.”
He understands, doesn’t he.
But young moms especially need the Word of God to fuel their busy lives. How can they get the food they need?
One quick way to discouragement is to set the bar unrealistically high. When our kids were young my husband urged me to invest small amounts of time over the long haul. That thought revolutionized my approach to Bible study through those busy years, when my soul was hungry but my time was short.
